Mukesh Sharma has more than twenty years of rich and diverse experience as a journalist. Most of his career has been spent at BBC News, where he held various key roles that showcased his versatility and expertise. He has an impressive track record of delivering impactful journalism across different platforms and languages. As the India Digital Editor, Mukesh led digital content strategy and execution ensuring the expansion of the BBC's digital presence in India into a high-performing and impactful operation. His expertise extends beyond India as he served as the lead editor for the BBC’s East African language services including Afaan Oromoo, Amharic, Gahuza, Somali, Swahili, and Tigrinya, as well as English for Africa. Prior to that, he served as the Editor of BBC Hindi for four years, overseeing editorial operations and maintaining the highest standards of journalism. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Hindi YouTube team and also led the Hindi social media desk, leveraging digital platforms to engage with a wider audience.  

Mukesh has reported from challenging environments, including the Siachen Glacier, the world's highest battlegrounds and from the hideouts of extremist groups like Hizbul Mujahideen and the Manipur Peoples’ Army. He received the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Award for the documentary ‘Rising Mercury, Deepening Crisis’, reflecting his excellence in storytelling.
