Sanjoy Majumder is an award winning journalist with nearly three decades of rich experience reporting from the UK, India, Afghanistan and South Asia. Educated in St Stephen’s College Delhi and Northwestern University, Chicago, he has lived in the United States, UK, the Middle East, East Africa as well as India.

From 2005-2017, Sanjoy was the BBC's Delhi Correspondent. Specialising in Conflict Zones and Politics, he covered elections in India, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan including the country's post-Taliban reconstruction, as well as key events such as the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh, the Holey Artisan cafe attack in Dhaka, Nepal earthquake and the Asian Tsunami of 2005. In 2018 he won the Peabody Award for his coverage of the Rohingya Refugee crisis “revealing the devastation and cruelty of ethnic cleansing”.

As India correspondent in the BBC's South Asia Bureau, Sanjoy was involved in television and radio broadcasting, leading editorial decisions, being part of special programming as well as mentoring and training young journalists. He has also been a pioneer in the use of Digital Media, setting up the BBC news website's South Asia page in 1999 followed by the BBC's India page as the BBC news website's India Editor (2002-2005). He has frequently reported for Radio New Zealand, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and National Public Radio, USA.

In January 2018, he was appointed as the Deputy Managing Editor for BBC World Service in India, managing a team of 300 and overseeing the BBC’s historic and massive expansion in the Indian media market, with the launch of four new digital and television language services alongside existing services in English, Hindi and Tamil. He was subsequently given charge of the Asia region looking after BBC World Service operations in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
