Iqbal Ahmad

Iqbal Ahmad has been working with the BBC World Service for more than 17 years. He has worked on several platforms, including radio/podcast, TV and digital media. His assignments included looking after the election desk of 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Before that he led the Hindi TV team, producing an impactful 18-minute bulletin which was aired on NDTV, a key partner of the BBC World Service until recently.

As a Hindi Planning lead, he was responsible for orchestrating innovative original journalism and digital, TV and podcast production. He oversaw the coverage of important events in the wider region, including Pakistan floods, key political developments after former prime minister Imran Khan was removed from power, Sri Lanka crisis, UP Assembly Elections (2021), Bihar Assembly Elections (2020), Abrogation of Art 370 from Jammu & Kashmir (2019) and the Indian General Elections (2019).

Before joining the BBC, he worked with Sahara TV, a prominent Indian media house, overseeing responsibilities at the assignment desk.

Prior to joining Sahara TV, he worked as an Editor at the Central Monitoring Service (CMS) under Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He has also worked for the Intelligence Bureau under the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs but resigned from the position in 2004 to pursue journalism.
